The article touches briefly on it, essentially even though a minority wants these terrible policies, that minority are the GOP base and are generally single issue voters and religious. That minority has an outsized say due to gerrymandering. And there is also a feedback loop in this country where the GOP gerrymanders, they cut education and other social services, blame the “enemy” for the downturn in QOL for their constituents, and repeat. It solidifies the us vs them mentality that has these people voting against their own interests.

Obviously super simplified outlook on it since it is a very complex issue. Other people in the thread have explained better.

I wonder if a government can actually do better at security. Not that corporations are amazing and infallible, but it isn’t like governments are known for creating the best software systems either.

I’ve never used anything but Nova for years and years now.

He took a few months off here or there for irl issues. I’ve been using Sync for nearly a decade, my personal opinion is that the drama is overblown. Even if he disappeared I would have gotten my money’s worth out of the app, I used it daily for 1 - 2 hours a day.

You’re probably right, but one can hope

I for one hope he is healthy enough to live the rest of his life in pain over years, and forced to step down and lose his power. This man has inflicted terrible damage to this country and its citizens. This is a man who put corporations and profit over anything and has sold our democracy to the highest bidder while empowering radical religious fanatics and fascists.

He’s partly responsible for so much pain, suffering, and excess deaths in this nation via his support for gun lobbies and removing healthcare rights of Americans, for his support of Trump, and the excess deaths resulting from his administration.

I hope he gets exactly what he deserves.

You’re not necessarily wrong, but the people who create the content I enjoy are on Twitch, so to me it is worth it. Everybody values things differently

It is not as simple as install uBlock Origin. I have uBlock, it is very easy to install a plugin.

However, every other day the current ad block solution stops working for twitch and you need to install multiple plugins (uBlock, TTV LOL), modify your ublock, or use alternate twitch UI which has no features, and since it changes so frequently I need to manually keep up to date with the changes on github for multiple plugins and scripts. Not to mention none of that works on mobile when you’re away from home, I use Pi Hole and it doesn’t block twitch ads. The ad block doesn’t work on chromecast or other devices.

Their ads are super aggressive, it is literally impossible to surf the website with ads. Every time you switch streams you’re served an ad which makes it very difficult to find people to watch or to follow multiple perspectives (I mainly watch RP).

For a few bucks a month I don’t have to deal with it and I watch Twitch more than any other streaming platform or social media, so to me it is worth the ease and consistency of use by just having turbo. The only two subscriptions I have are YouTube Premium and Twitch Turbo because I don’t get ads and I don’t have to deal with blocking them.
