I agree with OP…would like to be able to do that here on Lemmy as well…if you want to not see a post here, you have to block the user altogether.
Edit: Just tested it OP, after you refresh it goes away…it’s just a chance to Undo before it disappears entirely. It’s not a terrible change :)
but it seems like the developers tried to make it as different as possible just for the sake of being different.
They might actually be trying to avoid getting sued by Adobe.
