I appreciate your write up here. Thanks you. I’m going to get myself one. And also your impressions blog was the best review I have read in the last few days of looking into this watch.

I just got my pinetime as well, and the battery has impressed me the most! 10% over 2 days seems to be my average so far, which I suppose matches up with your experience.

I am hoping the new ability to stream image and font allows more rich notification capabilities, such as MMS and (to your point) accented letters.

Still need to get the development environment set up properly so that I can try and add a little extra functionality, but keep hitting build snags. Glad to see others hopping on the pinetime train though!

Edit: oh, author of the article didn’t post this…egg meet face lol

What do you mean? I am actually the author ahah!

I am hoping the new ability to stream image and font

I never heard of this, do you have any link or PR where works has been done on such a thing ?

I’m always excited for new features, don’t forget to post on here if you manage to add fun or useful features to the watch!

Well shoot haha I take back my edit then!

For the streaming bit: https://www.pine64.org/2022/10/18/infinitime-1-11/ It’s an old post from 1.11, but sounds like it supports the ability to do so. I think that’s where the new watchfaces are able to look so cool. But I think it means that future development could allow some form of functionality where you can use static resources not on the watch to display.

I still need to play with it lol

My Pinetime arrived exactly like yours: loose in the box like it slipped through. I don’t know if it happened during shipping or if it was packaged haphazardly, but there were no scratches or dents so no big deal. Also, I noticed you didn’t mention the other available OS. You can switch from Infinitime to Wasp-OS. I don’t think one is necessarily better than the other, but Wasp-OS has some features Infinitime doesn’t. The switching process is a little clunky, but there’s a guide that walks you through the steps and links to the required files. After switching back to Infinitime, I haven’t been able to load Wasp-OS a second time and I’m not sure why, but that could be a personal issue. All in all I’m happy with this watch. Most of the features the more expensive smart watches have over the Pinetime are things I wouldn’t use anyway, and I like that it can function as a standalone watch if you don’t connect it to anything. Thanks for the article, and I hope development keeps going strong for this neat little device.
