The so-called “meat storm,” in which wave after wave of foot soldiers are sent into the line of fire—Western intelligence services estimate that the total number of Russian dead and wounded has surpassed half a million—remains a grim hallmark of Russian operations, but the military has adapted.
Apparently, in their logic, bankrupting their country, losing a bunch of their young people and crippling the country demographically, economically, developmentally for maybe forever is OK as long as they get to kill a few russians.
I mean the west has been pretty open that they don’t care about Ukrainians, and see sacrificing Ukraine as a cheap way to try and weaken Russia.
It’s crazy hearing the same narrative from Ukrainians themselves.
I expect there’s gonna be a huge backlash once it becomes clear to Ukrainians that they were being used all along.
More like a betrayal myth to rile up the neo-nazis.
I full expect that there will be a lot of blowback in Europe after the war. Given that a lot of weapons the west dumped into Ukraine went unaccounted, it’s not hard to imagine that large numbers ended up in the hands of nazi extremist cells in Europe.

I guess one can work something out from refugee statistics, but yeah, it’s very unclear just how fucked Ukrainian demographics are. Only that they are, unfortunately, very fucked.
Well, you answered yourself, it’s so fucked that nobody dared to do a census for 23 years. Though i would say that if the numbers are from the official sources they can be pretty accurate because socialist and postsocialist countries count their citizens rather accurately even without census, censuses are done to get more indepth statistics. Though in case of Ukraine immense emmigration might be the source of much of that graph valley as millions of young men currently work in EU countries and can’t go back if they don’t want to be drafted, Poland and Baltics are full of them for example. Also i expect Ukrainian government to manipulate the numbers to turn a few million of emmigrating or nonexisting (since as you said, it’s going for a long time and it’s enough to slip a lot of neverborn here and there) people into “killed by Russia” hologramodomor style.
